We were driving through the Serengeti when we suddenly found ourselves caught in a firestorm. Choked by the dense smoke we pressed on. Animals were fleeing in panic to escape the fire that would mean certain death. Flames were licking at the side of our Land Cruiser. The tremendous heat filled our nostrils. But without any hesitation and no thought for our own safety, we stopped to bring you these dramatic pictures.
Seeing smoke in the distance we followed it to where they were conducting a controlled burn. This is done the same way they do it in our national forests. It is a way to regenerate growth of the natural plants and trees.
